There is a beautiful promise contained in Isaiah 55:10-11. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Do you catch the deep rhythm of God’s movement and joy in this verse? Every drop of rain that falls does so according to God’s purpose and design. Each little raindrop and every snowflake works in the cycle of God’s will to nourish the earth and bring forth fruit. Every one of God’s words does the same thing. Every time we open our Bibles, His word has the opportunity to soak into our hearts and nourish our souls. Each one of His words has a purpose to fulfill – to fix our eyes on Jesus, to invite us to the cross, to cover us with His love, and to shine a light into our darkness.
My Jesus Resolution today is prepare to be drenched. As I open my Bible today, I want to ready my heart for the refreshment He is preparing to rain down on my soul. I am going to look for the ways His word accomplishes His purpose in my life. I am going to anticipate the success He is going to have in transforming me to look more like Jesus. I don’t just want to play in the rain. I want to be drenched in the overwhelming, overflowing flood of His grace.
